In this session, early childhood educators and guardians/ families of students with disabilities will come together as a community of practice under the central context of increasing belonging in schools. Using the World Cafe Model, participants will explore their vision of a school that truly promotes a sense of belonging for early childhood students with disabilities, then share out the strengths and barriers of the programs they are currently in. As they move through the dialogue process, of small breakout groups of focused discussion, within the larger group, they will mix for each round of questioning. In the end, they will identify specific tailored and timely action steps for their schools to take to increase belonging. Through the process of providing a space where educators and families can come together to dialogue about a shared goal (increasing belonging in schools), the agency and collective wisdom of the group emerges. In the end, participation in the activity itself will leave participants energized, feeling valued, and knowing that their voices matter and have the power to influence positive change in their schools.
